About me

Often asked who I am or what is it I do. Well.
Perhaps the following will help.
I am a Cavaliere dell'Ordine dei produttori di occhiali di Firenze.
One of the last few. Quite rare, in as much as I am English.
A great honor indeed!.

As I said, we are few. Only ten now. I am the youngest at 65.
We meet twice a year behind closed doors, in Florence, to follow the rites and guard the secrets. They are pleasant events where I can catch up with very old friends.
This year I have been granted the great honor of Custode della pergamena d'onore.
I now keep these safe for delivery to the next custodian when my term is complete.
This is the first time they have traveled from Italy.
Also, it is the first time I have been able to handle the manuscripts.

The earliest are from the 13th century.
There comes with the title a heavy burden. I hope I do not fail them.

  1. I am interested in your spectacles of the late 14th century and would like to wear some under my bascinet with chainmail hence 4 cm diameter per frame at most. Please provide information as to cost, material (horn, wood), time to make etc.

Thanks for a feedback to k.u.k.ulan13@gmail.com

    Best regards

  2. Hi Richard
I have a range of spectacles of that period.
Either in Faux Bone, Faux Horn or Boxwood.
Most archaeological finds are around 30mm diameter, but I do a range between 28mm to 40mm dia and some " re-enactor friendly" for the modern person who needs to wear them all day.
All my frame types are in stock and to make a special size takes only a couple of days. Subject to me being at an event.
I'll send you some pictures and prices to your e-mail address.
    Hope this helps

I'd love to buy some 15th and 16th century spectacles in different colours and materials. Would be great if you could email me:
    anba_fr(at)yahoo.fr
substituting the (at) for @ of course.
    Kind regards,
    Anna
